Sunday, August 6, 2017, Regina, SK
Day 87

We began our Regina visit with a visit to the Legislative Building, the capitol building of the Province. Surprisingly, it is open for tours on Sunday. Perhaps not surprising is that on this Sunday morning we are the only ones there and thus we had a private guided tour of the place. Built in 1908-1912, the placement was controversial since at that time it was located out of town in the middle of nowhere. Time has fixed that problem since the town grew to encompass it.  The Leg (pronounced “ledge”) as it is known is located along a beautiful lake and garden in an area known as the Wascana Center. A walking path around the lake is 2.5 miles and we hiked it all. Next we went downtown to the Cornwall Center shopping area and grabbed a quick bite at Edo (noodle bowls). We then visited the Government House. From 1891 to 1945, this was the residence and office of the Lieutenant Governor, the Queen’s representative in the Province. On this day, 3 actors performed several vignettes of moments in the history of the first Lieutenant Governor after Saskatchewan first became a Province in 1905. Very well done and enjoyable. Next we visited the Saskatchewan Museum which had a good presentation on the different regions of the Province and their differing flora and fauna. Dinner at the Bushwakker Brew Pub was a gourmet bison burger with porter sauce, leeks and Dubliner cheese washed down of course, with a large pint of porter. Rosemary had chicken, with Swiss and sauteed mushrooms.
