Day 102

In the morning, we went waterfall hopping. We saw 5 falls which were either just off the road or within a short hike. We saw Alger Falls, Wagner Falls, Scott Falls, Munising Falls and Miner’s Falls. After lunch we did a wine tasting of some Michigan wines. The tasting was free and I consider that overpriced. Well at least we bought some good Canadian Niagara on the Lakes wines before we crossed the border. At 4:00, we took the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (“PRNL”) Spray Falls cruise. One of four U.S. national lakeshores and I cannot believe this one can be topped. PRNL is 42 miles of coastline and only 2 miles wide. The cruise was 34 miles round trip and the scenery was spectacular showing brilliantly colored cliffs caused by iron, manganese, copper and other minerals staining the sandstone, with waterfalls, sea caves, arches and beaches along the way. In total, we saw 9 waterfalls today. This is a must see without a doubt. But you better hurry, there is at least one rock collapse each year so this lakeshore may disappear in a few thousand years, or was it millions.
