Day 60

Departed Milwaukee and after about 2 hours arrived at the Walmart in Madison, WI. Visited the State Capitol and had a very good guided tour. Built between 1906 and 1917, the building houses the Governor’s office, the Senate Chamber, the Assembly Chamber (Assembly is the name for their representatives which most states refer to as the “House”) and the Supreme Court. The building was intended to be open to the public and it literally is open on all 4 sides with no security. The Supreme Court still resides there. The building is beautiful with 43 varieties of stone from all around the world and 22 carat gold leaf throughout. There is an outside viewing platform which circles the upper level offering great views of the city. In keeping with the openness to the public, the building is available for private events. Several attorneys have used the Supreme Court for their wedding venue. The place is so beautiful that I would have been tempted to partake in that when I got married. Next we visited the Olbrich Botanical Gardens which included a very ornate Thai Pavilion.

Day 59

Up at 4:05 a.m. to take Aaron to the airport. Back in bed at 5:10. Other than the airport we did not go out of the coach whatsoever. It was great having Aaron with us but it was an exhausting week and we needed a day of rest. Especially after breaking my record in Chicago for number of steps in a day at 22,000 which broke the previous day’s record of 19,000.
