Day 52, Wednesday, July 28, 2021, Watkins Glen, NY

We went waterfall hopping in the morning and visited Aunt Sarah’s Falls, Shequaga Falls and Eagle Cliff Falls. We can’t seem to see too many waterfalls. In the afternoon we went winery hopping along the west coast of Lake Seneca. We visited Lakewood Vineyards, Fulkerson Winery and Glenora Wine Cellars with Shtayburne Creamery in between. Some of the wines were better than others but the views of Seneca Lake while tasting the wines were beautiful. We liked the Lakewood Vineyards wine the best and bought four bottles, two Dry Rieslings, a Chardonnay and a Gewurztraminer along with Vierte (an aged cheddar) and Finger Lakes Gold (a hard goat cheese) from Shtayburne.  After a walk around Watkins Glen at the southern tip of Seneca Lake, we took home dinner from Thai Elephant. Delicious but portions were on the small size. Another great day.

Day 51, Tuesday, July 27, 2021, Watkins Glen, NY

We visited the Corning Museum of Glass today. This was our second visit (first visit was in 2014) and Aaron’s first visit. The museum had a new exhibit of contemporary glass art. We left the museum for lunch and took out bento boxes from Wild Ginger and ate them at a table in the shade at Centerway Square. After a walk along Market Street in downtown Corning, we returned to the museum. We enjoyed the museum as much as we did on our first visit although we did not spend the night in the museum parking lot as we had in 2014.

Day 50, Monday, July 26, 2021, Watkins Glen, NY
The morning was spent at the Watkins Glen State Park.  It advertises 19 waterfalls over 2 miles with a 400 foot drop lined by 200 foot cliffs. We hiked the gorge trail and it sure seems like more than 19 since the most of the entire 2 miles is lined with waterfalls. We climbed Jacobs Ladder at the end and came back by the north rim trail. In the afternoon, we visited the Sunset View Creamery and bought some cheese curds. Next was a visit to the Chateau Lafayette Reneau Winery for a tasting on the back deck overlooking Lake Seneca. This is our favorite winery in the Finger Lakes of NY this being our third time there. We bought four bottles of the dry Riesling and two of the Proprietor’s Reserve Chardonnay (new french oak). Since we clearly needed more alcohol, we next visited Finger Lakes Distilling which we had visited in 2014. We sampled one of their whiskeys, but at 100 proof it burned a bit too much on the way down. We bought three more moderate liqueurs, a Raspberry, Cherry and Maple Jack. I had bought the Maple Jack in 2014 and enjoyed it very much. Regretfully, the Cassis was not available.

Day 49, Sunday, July 25, 2021, Watkins Glen, NY (44 miles)

We got spoiled by the cool temps at Tupper Lake so we slept without the generator on and it got a bit warm. What’s a better way to cool off than a morning wine tasting. We sampled many wines and bought a bottle of Gewurztraminer. We continued onward to Taughannock Falls State Park for a 1.5 mile hike to the 215 foot waterfall. After lunch in the coach at the park we headed to the Watkins Glen KOA (FHU 50 amp). After hook up, we drove 20 minutes to Wegmans in Corning for a much needed grocery trip.

Day 48, Saturday, July 24, 2021, Ovid, NY (225 miles)

A fairly slow travel day to wind our way out of the Adirondack Park. We arrived just after 5 pm at Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery in Ovid. This winery is a Harvest Host so we spent the night at the winery. We walked down to the shore of Cayuga Lake both before and after dinner. Beautiful area.
