Day 22, Thursday, August, 16, 2018. Perce, QC to Gaspe, QC
Began the day with temps in the 60's as we headed 60 miles to Camping Baie-De-Gaspe in the Cap-Aux-Os village of Gaspe, Quebec, for our 3 night stay with full hookup, 30 amp. Our drive began with a 17% grade uphill. We had encountered many steep ups and downs on the Canadian roads but this one was the most.  Too bad it was uphill and not downhill.  We ended climbing it in first gear. No worry about exceeding the speed limit, just worry about whether we could make it to the top. We did but barely. Upon our arrival, we enjoyed the beautiful view from our campground and virtually all other places around Gaspe. No a/c needed for the drive and even with bright sun, it was cooler upon our arrival with low 60's. After lunch, we visited the Fort Peninsule site in the Forillon National Park. Built in 1942 to defend against German u-boats, it is a bunker with 4.7 inch guns coupled with other items like anti-submarine netting across the Gaspe Bay to protect the important Gaspe Port. Next we visited the Penouille, which is a small peninsula along the much larger Gaspe Peninsula.  We hiked the La Taiga trail plus along the beach to the end of the peninsula for about 2 hours. The hike started with us wearing our jackets but we warmed up enough to remove them during the hike. Then we drove to the town of Gaspe for grocery shopping at IGA, our first regular grocery since we entered Quebec. A walk around the campground after dinner was brisk with temp at 56.  Low tonight expected at 47 so heat will be needed tonight.
