Day 9, May 6, 2018.  Sunday.
After a relaxing morning at sea we visited Bamberg, Germany, a medieval city center and a UNESCO World Heritage site.  After our guided tour, we had time to explore the 11th century cathedral.  A unique feature was the statue of the Horseman, a king upon a horse. The Hungarian king was of course, a comparative barbarian then and did not know not to enter the church on horseback as he arrived to court the local princess.  A rest stop at Stilbruch to sample the famous unique beer of Bamberg, the rauchbier.  Made by drying the barley with woodfire, it imparts smokey flavor which some call “liquid bacon”.  I had a Spezial Rauchbier, one of the two main brewers of rauchbier.  It was good but not as smokey as I expected given the bacon analogy.  Walking time 1:56, 7,835 steps.
