Day 67

After 3 days in Avon, in a quiet, shady spot in the Walmart parking lot near the sign prohibiting overnight RV parking, we hit the road heading east on I-70.  Plan was to stay at the Idaho Springs RV Campground but it had no vacancies, our first such experience on the trip. So we parked the coach at the Idaho Springs downtown public parking lot, a very tight fit but I managed to find 4 spaces together and squeezed into them.  Lunch in the coach and then a 12 mile car trip up Fall River Road to St. Mary’s Glacier. From the road, the Glacier is a 3/4 mile hike uphill along a very rocky path at over 10,000 feet. We had visited this glacier in about 1990.  It is noticeably smaller, by a lot. Hard to believe in global warming on this day though since I had to wear long pants for the first time this trip and 2 jackets.  A light rain fell most of the hike which was interesting since part of the time we were in the clouds. The hike down was considerably easier. Back to the coach for a about a 20 mile drive to Dakota Ridge RV Resort in Golden, our first campground after 5 nights dry camping.
