Day 4, May 1, 2018. Tuesday.
An early breakfast of smoked salmon benedict plus many other goodies before our 8:30 am tour of the Kinderdijk Windmills.  The weather was rain with temperatures in the upper 40's but a vicious wind made it very cold.  A UNESCO World Heritage Site with 19 historic windmills hundreds of years old.  The windmills were used to power screw mechanisms to pump water out of the lowlands and into the river beyond the dike.  Our tour guide was a retired engineer and did a great job explaining the area history and the process of creating the farmlands from the swampland.  Back to the ship for lunch, Dutch teatime in the mid-afternoon and then a cocktail party before dinner.  It is becoming clear that the reputation of bountiful food on cruises is true as we have an incredible selection and amount of food and drink.  Good thing we are walking so much or the pounds would be packing on.  Walking time 2:19, 8,235 steps.
