Day 2. 4/29/18. Sunday.
After a nice hotel buffet breakfast, we went on a Viking walking tour looking at the varied architecture.  Most buildings have a hook near the top in order to hoist up objects from the street into the building.  The buildings have a slight slant toward the street so the hoisted objects do not hit the building on the way up.  After the tour, we take a tram to the Rijks Museum which contains many famous pieces including Rembrandt’s “Night Watch”, Vermeer’s “Milk Maid”, and a Van Gogh self portrait.  Lunch was a savory pancake (Dutch term for a crepe) and a visit to the Cheese Museum with many delicious samples. Afterward we visited the Anne Frank Huis which was very well done.  I left with same feeling I experience after a visit to a holocaust museum, one of utter sadness.  Another tram ride took us to the Portuguese Jewish Synagogue which was unfortunately closed. From the outside, it seems immense.  Dinner at the Pressbox Restaurant was good but it took over 2 hours to get our food.  A complimentary second beer helped stave off the hunger.  Another couple local brews called Brouwerijtij Zatte (triple) and Natte (double).  A very nice day to celebrate our 34th anniversary.  Walking time 4:36, 16,743 steps.
