Day 21

Wedding day for our niece Denise at Stonehurst, the Robert Treat Paine Estate. We met the groom for the first time, Robin, who hails from Sweden. Many of Robin’s family made the trip from Sweden. I loved their accent but it was Robin’s father who accused me of a distinct southern drawl. Although it rained almost the entire drive to the wedding, when we arrived the weather was beautiful and a good thing since it was an outdoor ceremony. A wonderful ceremony and party and a good time was had by all.

Day 20

Checked into Circle CG Campground for our Massachusetts stay. We visited the Minute Man National Park from Concord to Lexington and walked a part of Battle Road Trail where the “shot heard around the world” occurred and the Revolutionary War began. We also visited the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, a National Historic Landmark, and visited the graves of Emerson, Thoreau, Alcott and Hawthorne. We found it amusing that the headstones were surrounded by pens and pencils stuck into the ground. Dinner with Kathy and Bob at Medway CafĂ© at which it turns out Wednesday is “Italian Fest” which includes 2 dinners each with a salad, pasta, a glass of wine and a one topping pizza! All for $25. We took the pizza to go as the rest left us quite full.

Day 19

After 5 days in the Meadowlark campground, we departed and headed to Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA. The largest collection of WWII warships included the battleship Massachusetts, destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. and 2 PT boats. The PT boat exhibit was very interesting.  Viewing the boats is a rarity as not many of the wooden boats survive. In fact the Navy burned many of them on Pacific beaches after the war ended as it was determined not cost effective to bring them home.  Indeed, the PT crews were well aware that during the war, the boats were deemed expendable. We then headed to Bellingham a day early for our campground so we stay at the Bellingham Walmart.

Day 18

Rained all day so we did something very unusual for us. We stayed in all day. Did some trip planning among other things.
