Day 37

A relaxing day (I know unusual for us) not doing too much.  A trip to Georges for bubble tea and dinner at Seoul Korean for dinner. Then the highlight of the Halifax trip, the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. The show was fantastic and included marching bands, acrobats, singers, the Flying Grandpas and more bagpipes than you could count on the world’s largest indoor stage.  The USAF made a nice appearance demonstrating synchronized rifle handling, juggling really, with bayonets attached. The finale included indoor fireworks making for a complete 4th of July.

Day 36

Drove about 1 hour to New Ross Farm Museum located inland in Nova Scotia.  The farm was wilderness when granted to William Ross in 1816.  It was farmed by the Ross family until 1969 which included sheep, chickens, pigs, cattle and horses in addition to crops. Look closely, Rosemary is not actually touching the sheep! Buildings included a blacksmith shop, stave mill, cooper shop, school, barns and a peddlers shop. Period costumed farmhands, some who still work on the farm, told of the history of the farm.  Included were several spinners and handweavers actually spinning wool into yarn. Interesting and fun. Next was a drive along the coast, through Chester and into Hubbards for dinner at the Shore Club, serving a traditional “Lobster Supper” since 1936.  The meal includes an all you can eat salad bar and mussels steamed in white wine.  Rosemary was in heaven with her 2 pound lobster.  I settled for a 1-1/4 pounder as my 4 trips to the mussel bar only left so much room. The salad bar also contained pickled mussels which left me in heaven as well. After dinner, another trip to Peggy’s Cove while the weather was good and a great sunset view.

Day 35

After a stop at the Acadian Maple Products where we tasted and purchased Haskapa syrup (tastes like a cross between a blueberry and a raspberry, though not related to either), we headed into Halifax and visited the Original Farmer’s Market in Alexander Keith’s Brewery but very small so we quickly went to the Seaport Farmer’s Market and it was hopping. Many vendors including several wineries and distilleries.  One was a single malt distillery which was very much enjoyed for this Scotch drinker.  We learned where all these places were and will visit a lot of them on our travels.  Rosemary got tipsy (it doesn’t take much) and so we had to eat lunch which was lobster rolls at the Goldwater Lobster Shack. Drove to Point Pleasant Park and saw the Prince of Wales Tower. Drove back into town and toured the Province House where the Nova Scotia Provincial Government meets. Walked around the “Historic Properties” area and dinner in the coach.
