Day 15, Monday, June 21, 2021, College Park, MD

Metro ride again to Washington, DC to visit the National Gallery of Art for which we had timed entry tickets. We first walked through the National Sculpture Garden and ate our picnic lunch which we brought with us. We began at the art gallery’s West Building and with our favorite, the 19th Century French Paintings. Many works by many well known artists, there is even a Leonardo da Vinci. The East Building houses the contemporary art and I still don’t get why some of this stuff is “art” let alone in a museum. We closed the museum down at 4:00 after a visit to the gift shop and purchases for the grandkids.

Day 14, Sunday, June 20, 2021, College Park, MD

We drive the car to the Fort Totten Metro Station and take the subway to the Archives Station for a day in Washington, DC at the National Mall. The day was a scorcher with both the temperature and humidity in the 90's. The heat was compounded by the fact that everything on the mall is closed so no a/c relief in any building. The Capitol was closed and barricaded as was the Supreme Court. The Smithsonian Museums were closed.  Even the botanical gardens were closed. The side of the White House facing the ellipse was blocked by fencing and not even visible. A long walk at the end of the day to view the other side of the White House was met with more barricades and also Secret Service members. The days total - 8.8 miles, over 21,000 steps. Expect to sleep well tonight.

Day 13, Saturday, June 19, 2021, College Park, MD (165 miles)

Travel and laundry day. Interstate traffic was horrible virtually  all the way as 165 miles took over 4 hours of driving time. Checked into the Cherry Hill Park (50 amp FHU).

Day 12, Friday, June 18, 2021, Williamsburg, VA

Spent the day with Rob & Carol beginning with a hike at the Green Springs Park where we came across a field with 8 deer grazing. Lunch at Blue Talon Bistro in Colonial Williamsburg was a blackened fish reuben, delicious but messy. Afternoon coffee ad then a visit to the coach before picking up Charlie’s Pizza for dinner.  A very relaxing day with very good friends.

Day 11, Thursday, June 17, 2021, Williamsburg, VA (167 miles)

Checked into American Heritage RV Park (50 amp FHU).  Visited with our friends Rob & Carol.  Spent the evening in Colonial Williamsburg outside at open mic night where Rob and his musician friends played all evening long. A lot of singing along and a lot of Beatles tunes.  Dinner from Aromas World was shrimp and grits which was surprising good for take out. An Elbow Patches Stout from The Hound’s Tale was a great way to wash down the dinner.
