Day 7. Wednesday, August 1, 2018.  Wilmington, DE to Clarksboro, NJ.
A visit to Nemours Estate, built by Alfred I. DuPont in 1909-1910.  The 47,000 square foot, 77 room mansion modeled after Marie Antoinette’s chateau, the Petit Trianon which is on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles.  Originally including 3000 acres, the remaining estate is 300 acres and includes the Nemours Children’s Hospital founded by DuPont.  We had a guided tour of the mansion which contains all of the original DuPont family’s possessions as upon the death of Alfred and his wife Jesse, the estate was left to the Nemours Foundation.  The mansion is surrounded by beautiful gardens on all sides.  We had a personal tour of the gardens by one of the gardens caretakers.  They are experimenting with different plants trying to move toward those not on the menu of the area deer.  The visitors center has a nice history of the DuPont family and the DuPont Company which began in 1802 as a gun powder producer.  Afterward we drive a half hour to the Philadelphia South KOA in Clarksboro, NJ, which was called Timberlane RV Campground last time we stayed there.
