Day 43

Ran some errands in the morning including a bagel run as Rosemary has been without for over a week.  No bagel places did we find in NM. Afternoon spent at the Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures.  The museum contains over 300 houses and roomboxes of miniatures some of which were outstanding in their detail.  Inlaid wood, stained glass windows and lighting, blown glass bottles and much more.  It kept our interest for about 3 hours.  Then back to the coach for some relaxation, something with which we are not very familiar it seems.  Supper with Staci and Jon at China Szechwan was surprisingly good.  Unfortunately, no leftovers.

Day 42

The first night after the change to pacific time, we woke up at 6:15 am.  The sun was bright and it was already 84 degrees outside.  Made for an early visit to the Sabino Canyon.  Rode the shuttle to the end of the canyon.  Hiked up the mountain about half a mile and then down the same path to avoid the .7 mile ridge path which is very rough and where the ranger said 95% of their accidents occur.  Then we walked the canyon trail about 4.2 miles.  All together we walked over 2 hours.  Went through several bottles of water and each of us utilized an umbrella and very glad we did so. Lunch at AJ’s Fine Foods, a gourmet grocery and then headed to Biosphere 2 for a 1.5 hour tour on our feet the entire time.  The tour was very interesting and included the underground workings of the air system.  This place was where 8 people spent 2 years, 1991 to 1993, totally separated from the outside.  Built with 150 million private dollars, it is now owned by the University of Arizona and there is still research ongoing there.  Supper at Zemam’s Ethiopian restaurant was very good and introduced Staci, Jon and Avery to something new.

Day 41

Departed Deming, NM and headed to Tombstone, AZ, about a 3.5 hour drive.  In Tombstone we visit the Historama, a history of the “Town too tough to die” narrated by Vincent Price in film and diorama.  Then we watched a live recreation of the gun fight at O K Corral.  Still not sure who the good guys were and who were the bad guys.  We visited the site where the gun fight took place on 10/26/1881.  Ok, the town is way too touristy, but that was expected.  Still did not want to miss it since it was only 20 miles off I-10 on the way to Tucson.  About another 1.5 hour drive and checked into the Whispering Pines RV Park in Tucson.  Supper with Staci, Jon and Avery at Green Choice.
