Day 4

Departed Hendersonville for 310 mile drive to Summersville, WV, and the Kirkwood Winery and Isaiah Distillery, a member of Harvest Hosts. Along the way we drove across the River Gorge Bridge and made an unplanned stop at the New River Gorge National River Park.  Walked down the boardwalk/steps to view the River Gorge Bridge from below and then back up the 200 or so steps.  It felt good to have some physical exertion after driving for hours. The last mile to the winery was a two way one lane road.  Fortunately, we encountered no traffic on this road.  Wine was fairly sweet and not to our palate but the Bourbon was quite good although a bit pricey.  Overnight at the winery was isolated and real quiet.  The only sounds to be heard was us and the cicadas who were, fortunately, outside the coach.

Day 3

A very pleasant day in the Asheville River Art District with lunch at 12 Bones BBQ and a trip to the new New Belgium Brewery tasting room.  The brewery tours have not yet started as the building was not quite completed.  Lucky me the Abbey Ale (7% ABV) I ordered filled the pint glass only about 4/5's when the keg ran out.  Bartender said come back in 5 minutes and I’ll top you off.  I said but I am going to drink it now and was told no problem.  Well when I went back to get topped off somehow the glass was only about 1/5 full.  Topped off, no problem!  Dinner in Hendersonville at Umi (Asian fusion) did not make Rosemary unhappy.

Day 2

Travel day to Hendersonville, NC, to visit sister Staci, Jon and Avery, a 360 mile drive.  A great thing about motorhome travel is seeing family and friends along the way who you may otherwise not see as often.

Day 1

We’re off on our nearly 4 month trip to the Atlantic Provinces of Canada.  For those with an advance copy of the itinerary we departed a day early and altered our course due to tropical storm Bonnie.  That allowed us to have dinner with Tim & Marilyn in Lake City, FL.  A new restaurant in Lake City, Chef’s Steakhouse, CafĂ© and Bakery, was an unusual buffet combo of Italian and Mexican stations but with a tremendous salad bar.  Got to avoid buffets in the future or the few pounds I lost before the trip will quickly return.  After dinner, headed further north to the Georgia Agricultural Museum parking lot in Tifton, GA, for a quiet overnight after 270 miles. Awakened in the middle of the night to the sound of “it’s too hot”. So I crank up the generator and run the a/c.  Good night’s sleep and awakened by the alarm immediately followed by the sound of “it’s too cold”.

  1. Metric isn't so hard... if the US would switch like every other civilized country has, you'd be just fine. 100kph = 60 mph, use that as a guide. Don't convert the gas prices... even with the exchange rate, you'll be angry, particularly in Ontario. Bet they're close to 1.20/L now. Have fun. If you want to take the TransCanada about 3500 km west, we have a spot for your RV in front of our place.
