Day 36, Thursday, August 30, 2018. Saguenay (La Baie), QC.
An hour car drive along the south shore of the Saguenay River to the Riviere Eternite entrance to the Fjord-du-Saguenay National Park.  We embark on the hike which provides the best viewpoint of the fjord which happens to be a 7.6 km non-looped trail rated ID for some intermediate and some difficult areas. We postponed our visit to this park the previous day due to rain all day.  Today was supposed to be only a 10% chance of rain but our hike began in a light rain. On top of that, we began wearing 2 jackets as temps in the 50's.  The rain did stop after a little while and we enjoyed several scenic overlooks along the way. At the trail end the view was fantastic. A fence lined the edge of the cliff to keep us safe.  That safety did not extend to my small folding umbrella which fell out of my pocket and rolled under the fence and stopped 3 inches from the cliff edge but, alas, out of reach. We concluded the entire trail in 4.5 hours. After our picnic lunch, we headed to the L’Anse-Saint-Jean entrance of the park about another 30 minutes southeast. The hike to the fjord there was 10 minutes and a loop.  The view was just as fantastic as the 7.6 km hike and it was a good thing it was not any longer. Total steps today 19,000.
